Outreach Ministry Mission and Description

The mission of the Outreach Ministry is to further the mission of St. Brendan’s by Coordinating community service activities and donations for the benefit of the residents of Deer Isle, the Blue Hill Peninsula and beyond.  In addition to helping people in need, the ministry will help forge a ‘parish identity’ and provide a strong ecumenical, service and evangelism impact.

 

I. The responsibilities of the Outreach Ministry are to:

  • Develop collaboration with other community churches and service organizations in the community and where possible and appropriate invite their leaders to meet and discuss their work with the Outreach Committee and congregation;

  • In partnership with the Finance and Stewardship Ministry, and with the approval of the Vestry, develop budgets that will sustain the ministry;

  • To the extent that the foregoing budget is sufficient to make outreach grants, communicate with prospective recipients of such grants and award those grants in a timely manner; and

  • Recruit St. Brendan’s members and community members to support and participate in Outreach work.

 

II. In carrying out the Outreach Ministry of the congregation in partnership with the Priest in Charge and the Vestry, ministry members and the Chair (or Co-Chairs) will:

  • Commit to participate fully in meetings and actively engage in the Ministry’s work;

  • Seek consensus, work collaboratively and communicate effectively;

  • Set priorities for the Ministry and review performance on past priorities annually;

  • Make program and policy recommendations concerning this Ministry to the Vestry;

  • Conduct the Ministry in a manner consistent with Episcopal Church Canons and the Mission and Values of St. Brendan’s.
