Bishopswood is the beautiful summer camp of the Episcopal Diocese of Maine, located near Lincolnville Center less than 2 hours from Deer Isle. The drive is to Belfast, then via Rt 52 to Rt 235 and the camp road, about 70 miles.
For a number of years the annual women’s retreat has been a much cherished time for women of our parish to build community in a beautiful natural setting away from our normal lives, to enjoy kayaking, swimming, hiking, singing, laughing, playing, eating and drinking together, along with times of quiet, spiritual reflection and meditation. Our structure is very loose. We all do whatever we like and all are welcome in the activities and opportunities as they arise.
Sleeping quarters are rustic cabins, some with plumbing, most without but all in very close proximity to the large bath house and its many private showers and toilets. More cabin particulars will be made available close to camp time.
Generous and delicious breakfasts and dinners are served in the camp dining hall; Laura, our cater, prepares our food and we do our own KP. A bag lunches to be taken wherever we wander for the midday meal. Vegetarian and gluten-free folks can be accommodated. If you have dietary restrictions beyond these, please speak to Martha Dane about any concerns. A small refrigerator located in the Health Hut is available to us.
Bring towels and bedding: blanket, pillow, linens for single bed (2 exceptions - TBA)
and:
water bottle
repellant and proper clothing to discourage ticks
flashlight
snacks and evening beverage of choice
rain gear
visor or cap
We encourage anyone so moved to bring a game, idea, activity, craft or inspiration to share.
